    About the United Methodist Men

The United Methodist Men is a mission oriented organization formed 23 years ago for men of all ages. A monthly breakfast / work morning is held at the church at 7:30 AM on the second Saturday in each month from January through November. Resident chefs prepare a bounteous repast. No one leaves hungry unless you arrive late!

Our work mornings consist of repairs around the church such as changing light bulbs, painting, minor carpentry, etc.  In the summer, we may be called upon for weeding, pruning, etc. Men with tractor / mowers have volunteered to mow our approximately 30 acre campus.  We also assist in preparing our soccer field for our Upward Soccer program. Approximately 170 boys and girls ages 3-12 participate in this popular outreach program!

One of the most anticipated mission projects is the second week of October when men from the group travel to the mountains of eastern Kentucky for the annual Red Bird Mission trip. Each year approximately 20 men give a week of their time to help others. The volunteers amy be called upon for plumbing, adding rooms, leveling / replacing floors, roofing, installing dry wall, vinyl siding, replacing windows, painting, and building decks. Over the years, our men have gained such expertise that projects are sometimes "reserved" for them. Below are some recent pictures of our 2009 Red Bird Mission Trip.

The first full week in November another mission project takes place in the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. For the past 16 years, approximately 6 to 8 of our members spend a week cutting and splitting wood for needy Indian families. Approximately 175 families benefit from their labors.
